Finding Campgrounds Update, etc.

I’m sewing today…trying to catch up on the Mystery Quilt.  Bonnie published Step 4 early.  Of course.  Slapping Head  But before I head into seclusion, I thought I’d share a couple of recent RV finds.

I found another cool link for the Finding Campgrounds section @ RVLife.   I don’t know the owner or how I found his site as I just stumbled onto it when researching campgrounds earlier this year.   Lots of pictures from the many campgrounds he has visited over the years.  Seems he might be moving his info to another website platform soon.  He talks about it in a message posted in the  discussion area.  I’m going to sign up for this group so I can stay in touch after he moves.

We might have to get another sign made when we get a puppy like this. smile

I look at puppy websites every night.  Tom’s warming up to the idea though some days he wavers.  Me too - I still need to be really, really sure.  This little cutie is no longer available.   Dang  She is a Schnoodle (part Schnauzer - part Poodle).

Larry & Penny Thompson Memorial Park

Today we went over to check on the Bus and make sure things are OK and then headed down to Miami.   We drove down to specifically checkout Larry & Penny Thompson Memorial Park which is about 30 miles from our home.  This is a popular county park that is huge — in terms of the CG (240 RV sites) and the recreation facilities that they offer the general public.  Our time was spent @ the CG only so I won’t comment on the public area.   Boy oh boy this CG was packed.  I think there may have been 1 or 2 sites empty but the staff said not for long!

207967-1004339-thumbnail.jpgThe CG layout consists of 11 circular areas that they call PODS.   PODS 1 & 2 have 30 sites and the remaining have 20 sites.  The pic above is POD 9 from a distance.  All sites have water, electric (looks like 50 amp — Tom checked a few) and sewer.  As you can see the roads are paved and so is each parking pad (though pretty narrow) but the patio area is not — except for handicap sites — those have paved patios too.     They have a huge pool and beautiful recreation building — both look brand new.   Very nice.  There is a big screen TV in the recreation building - appears to be about a 58”.

Entrance to POD 2
PODS with 20 sites are arranged with 4 inside the circle and 16 outside.  In these PODS site 17 - the one you see as you first enter  tends to have a good size patio space — though not all that private.  It’s the one with the Winnebago on it in the pic to the left.

The handicap sites tend to be the nicest — no one on your patio side and everything is paved including the patio.   Now we noticed in many PODs site 14  was usually a good size too.  Our favorites were the ones in POD 8 & 6.  The picture above is site 14 in POD 6.

207967-1004340-thumbnail.jpgEach POD had a dedicated restroom and laundry building — 4 washers/dryers.   And the restrooms had 4 showers - each with it’s own private dressing room.   Overall a nice CG.  You can stay here 6 months at a time and they have lots of repeat business.  The only concern I have is the area surrounding the park — not the best part of Miami.  I read those comments on RV Park Reviews and it is true — lots of houses with bars on the windows.   Kinda scary looking but I hear the CG  is well patrolled and must be OK otherwise it wouldn’t be packed.   You can see all the pictures I took today here.

Our return trip to Ortona near the end of February is still a go — we are ready… it’s been too long!
